Wildcat Youth Wrestling Club

What is Wildcat Youth Wrestling?

The mission of the Wildcat Wrestling Club is to provide a positive & fun environment where kids can learn the fundamentals of wrestling, and compete against other wrestlers of similar age/experience in controlled competitions within the Metro Richmond youth wrestling area & beyond. Our focus is on teaching wrestling fundamentals to our wrestlers in an age appropriate manner, allowing for kids to progress to higher levels of learning at their own pace. We teach techniques for novice beginners through seasoned veterans, ages 5 & up, with opportunities to wrestle as little or as much as your child desires. We believe that the sport of wrestling provides tremendous benefits, including increased strength, improved flexibility, mental toughness and self-confidence.

Wildcat Philosophy

Winning and losing is not relevant to the successful development of each wrestler. Every kid will learn & succeed at his or her own pace. We judge success by how well each wrestler progresses from the beginning of the season through the end. Some kids mature more quickly than others, and will succeed faster than their peers. Others may take 2 or 3 years before it finally “sinks in”, but we take pride in seeing each wrestler celebrate individual successes, be they big or small. Our goal is to keep young wrestlers involved with the sport until middle school, where they will have a chance to represent their school and compete against their rivals. While specialization has become the norm in youth sports, we think kids should play multiple sports. Wrestling serves as a great complement to many sports, including football, soccer, lacrosse & gymnastics. It is the toughest sport and will develop courage and a strong work ethic.
